Unlike many British manufacturers of the period, Jensen commissioned Carrozzeria Touring to design the Interceptor before production bodies were built by Vignale in Italy and later assembled in West Bromwich. The result was one of the most distinctive GT cars of the era, instantly recognisable by its sweeping lines and dramatic wraparound rear glass hatch.
Beneath that elegant bodywork sat something refreshingly uncomplicated.
The Chrysler 7.2-litre (440 cubic inch) V8 produced effortless torque, paired with the legendary TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Rather than demanding constant attention, the Interceptor simply settles into a relaxed stride, capable of covering huge distances with remarkable ease. By the early 1970s, the Mk III had become the definitive Interceptor, receiving numerous refinements that made it the most successful version of the model.
