OVERVIEW

A true heavyweight of early post-war touring car racing, the Jaguar Mk VII earned its reputation not through rarity, but through outright capability. In period, cars of this type dominated British saloon car racing, most notably in the hands of Stirling Moss — combining the strength of Jaguar’s XK engineering with handling that defied its size.

This particular example, ‘TRU 671’, represents that legacy in its most authentic and usable form.

Acquired in 2000 and prepared by Racing Green, it was selected to compete in the inaugural St Mary’s Trophy at the Goodwood Revival — one of the most significant historic racing debuts of the modern era. Shared with Le Mans legend Mike Salmon, the car immediately established itself as a serious historic contender.

From there, its story is one of continuous relevance. Regular appearances at Goodwood Revival, Members’ Meeting, and leading UK historic race series have ensured it has never become static — instead, evolving carefully as a competitive machine while retaining its core identity.

Beyond Goodwood, the car has competed internationally, including appearances at Spa-Francorchamps, reinforcing its credibility as more than just a UK-centric entrant.

A particularly human detail remains within the car: a plaque bearing Mike Salmon’s well-known phrase, “Flat as a Kipper!” — a subtle but meaningful link to its early racing history and one of the personalities who defined it.
