MORE ABOUT THIS CLASSIC
A fabulous early example, a second year of production Series 1 Jaguar E-type, finished in a rare and original factory colour combination of Jaguar Black over Black trim, as confirmed by the accompanying Jaguar Heritage certificate. Built-in November 1962, the E-type was delivered to and sold through Jaguar Cars, New York less than a month later, to a Mr Bondner of Berkeley California, USA, officially registering the Jaguar E-types first owner.
Imported by Chapel End Cars of Nuneaton in 2012, the E-type was purchased by Mr Byrnes of the now defunct Byrnes Motor Trust Inc (BMT), as a restoration project, sold as ‘spare parts only’. Byrnes’ classic car restoration outfit started the restoration on the desirable Series 1 in late 2012, where the E-type was given the full works, taken back to bare metal to ensure the base of the build was strong, safe and will stand the test of time.
Understanding the importance of documenting this iconic machine, the Byrnes kept a photographic file of the E-type as it went through the various restoration processes. Considering the starting condition of the E-type and made clear from the available photographic file, the E-type required all-new engine frames, bonnet, outer sills, various exterior skins and general fabrication across the floor plans and boot.
Since restoration, it is understood the car made up one of the desirable examples of a significant UK collection. It later appeared in various auctions across the years from 2015-2017, still in fantastic condition, suggesting the E-type had been meticulously cared for in years following the restoration.
It was in 2018 the current owner took delivery of the Jaguar E-type, following a thorough independent third-party inspection, which reported the E-type to be presented as a beautifully cared for and restored 60’s Coupe. In the knowledge of this glowing report, the buyer made a confident purchase and agreed on a handful of upgrades and work to improve the useability of the classic which included:
- LHD to RHD conversion
- Uprated 4 pot front brakes
- Electronic ignition system
- High torque starter
The years following the owners purchase, much to any prospective buyer’s delight, ensured the E-type was looked after to the highest standard, regularly cared for by well-known industry specialists, with annual services, general upkeep and fitting other desirable upgrades such as:
- Uprated cooling fan
- Inertia seat belts
- Period-styled radio with Bluetooth connectivity and handsfree
Today this Jaguar E-type is presented in fantastic condition, presented exceptionally well as a result of careful ownership and featuring charming patina throughout, all in keeping and offering a desirable representation of a true 1962 Series 1 Jaguar E-type.
