More about this classic
A late 3.8 fixed head Jaguar E-type, built in January 1964, finished as left-hand drive and shipped tp Jaguar Car, New York for sale, displayed in the showroom finished in Silver Grey with Light Blue trim, as confirmed by the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.
It is understood the E-type was imported and registered in the UK in May 1989, later converted to right-hand drive to appeal to the UK market, spending some time in South Yorkshire. Jumping forwards to 2007 and the E-type recorded a sale via Racing Green of Hampshire, specialists of classic and modern Jaguar and TVRs, entering to ownership of a Mr Dale of Highgate. It was at this time the E-type was presented in the California Sage exterior and Red trim you see today.
Mr Dale ensured the E-type was kept maintained and safely on the road as highlighted by regular MOT pass certificates featured in the history file, despite E-type’s being MOT and road tax exempt. The E-type changed ownership again sometime before 2013, when the car entered the collection of the Classic Car Club Auto, London.
The Classic Car Club at the time presented an exclusive offering to its members. Following a one-time membership fee, the club's members gained access to the club's large collection of classic cars. Through a unique points system members were able to book use of a range of cars from Ferraris, Aston Martins and you guessed it, Jaguar E-types. Today the Classic Car Club has adjusted its offering to classic and sports car storage, called “The Vault”.
Since 2013 the E-type has been regularly maintained and cared for through the club, recommissioning areas that required attention and upgrading mechanical aspects of the Jaguar E-type that improved the reliability of this 60’s classic, such as replacing the period dynamo with a modern alternator and fully rebuilding the 4-speed synchro gearbox in October 2021.
Today the E-type is presented in highly useable condition and offers a fantastic representation of what it was like to drive a Jaguar E-type back in the day. Boasting a unique colour combination of California Sage over its charming Red patinaed interior, the E-type stands out from the crowd and glistens in the sunshine. Starting on the button, the mechanicals perform as expected for a 1960’s icon, fitted with a modern alternator, Koni shocks and electric cooling fan, all aiding a strong engine which pulls well and the rebuilt gearbox, precisely selecting each gear as you speed along the tarmac.
