MORE ABOUT THIS CLASSIC...

An original home market right-hand drive roadster offering a combination of charming 1960's patina and reliability upgrades that makes this desirable classic rare to today's market. One of the last home market 3.8L Roadsters produced before the 4.2L engine capacity change in October 1964. The E-type was delivered new and sold by a verified dealer, Moore of Brighton to a Mr. D.Hatchwell in June, as highlighted by the accompanying JDHT certificate.

Beginning its life with the registration mark ACD 122B, it is believed the Roadster was extensively used and enjoyed in the first 10 years of ownership, later landing into the hands of a Mr Court in January 1977, with this ownership outlined by the documented ‘Green Continuation Log Book’ issued the same year. Continuing to pass hands to a Mr Rees, Warwickshire, in the early 1980’s, the E-type was set to begin an extensive full restoration at the hands of West Midlands restoration firm, Auto Cellulose Ltd. Starting its restoration in Winter 1983, the E-type was taken back to bare metal, with areas of damage and corrosion removed and replace/corrected, which included:

  • Complete floor plans (front and boot)
  • Inner and outer sills
  • Scuttle panels
  • Rear wings and wheel arches
  • N/s outer door panel
  • Rear body valence

With the shell restored, documenting this stage in two supplied photos, the assigned restoration team began removing and refurbishing the mechanicals and exterior components, all in preparation for the exterior paintwork. The shell was future-proofed with underseal and wax oil, then later given a new coat of Jaguar Black. This fresh new look was paired with a full retrim to an elegant Red hide. It was shortly after this time the E-type was given a new registration number that has been retained today.

The restoration continued, now assigned to a new garage based in Birmingham, with all work undertaken carefully documented and featured in the present history file. Projects included refurbishing the engine, suspension, and brakes. Shortly after this work was completed, circa 1987, the E-type was taken off the road and stored for the next 20 years.

Having sat for this extended period, the Roadster later appeared in a Bonhams Silverstone Auction in 2010. Due to minor damage that occurred across the years of storage, the E-type was offered as ‘sold as seen’, later achieving a sale due to the rarity of these examples in the market. Following a short period of ownership after the auction, the E-type arrived with the current custodian, purchasing the vehicle from a West Sussex classic car specialist. Regularly returning to the specialist for ongoing projects that included:

  • Servicing
  • Rebushing the car with polyurethane bushes
  • Uprated cooling with aluminium radiator, header tank, and modern cooling fan.
  • Upgrading HT leads
  • Stainless steel exhaust system with 6 branch manifolds

Having spent a year with the car, the owner decided to have the engine inspected and fully rebuilt. A Hampshire-based firm was commissioned to undertake the project, stripping down the engine and reboring the block to +30 thou making the total engine size 3.834 liters. Other work included acid dipping the block for cleaning, replacing the crankshaft, new valve guides, springs, collets, and performance cams, finishing the project by also rebuilding the carburettors.

For the last 8 years, the E-type has been consistently serviced and maintained by classic car specialists, including the professionals at E-Type UK. All in the name of ensuring this desirable classic remains in safe and road-going condition, whilst also keeping a detailed history and works file.

Today the E-type offers great investment into an original right-hand drive British roadster, in highly useable condition. The E-type is available for immediate viewing, should you wish to arrange a viewing please contact us on +44 (0) 1732 852 762/+44 (0) 1732 440 494 or email sales@etypeuk.com.
