MORE ABOUT THIS CLASSIC...

Inspired by the changing legislation from the US in the late 1960s, Jaguar was forced to rethink their iconic E-type. The Series 2 E-type was born in 1968, with several versions available, a fixed-head coupe, open two-seater and two plus two models, all fitted with a 4.2 straight-six engine. Introduced with such changes as open headlights, dash rocker switches, collapsible steering column, reposition ignition barrel, redesigned centre console, door cards and seats with the added option of headrests, the newly redeveloped model allowed Jaguar to continue to supply the highly desirable marque to the US, their largest and most profitable market.

Offered here is a full matching numbers 1970 fixed-head coupe example, finished in a classic combination of Carmen Red over Black trim. Produced in January, delivered and sold via British Leyland, New York a month later. While the earliest years of the E-type’s life aren’t present in the history file, the car recorded ownership in Casselberry, Florida in 1995 with the E-type exported to the UK in 1999, supported by H M Customs documentation present in the file.

In the late Autumn of 2012, the E-type arrived at a Kent based classic car sales specialist in mostly restored condition. It was decided that Series 2 would be treated to a light works program to refine the condition and useability of the E-type. Across a 4-year period, the classic car specialists undertook the following:

  • LHD to RHD conversion
  • Gearbox reconditioning
  • Fitting a high torque starter
  • Moto-Lita 14” wooden steering wheel
  • Replacing several exterior chrome brightwork

Alongside this work, the owner began building the accompanying history file, retaining invoices and receipts for parts and work undertaken during this period.

It was in early 2016 that the E-type was sold to the current owner. Since its purchase, the E-type has covered less than 2,000 miles in its 10 years of ownership and has always been meticulously cared for, only ever dry stored in a temperature-controlled garage, which is reflected in the E-types overall condition today.

Presented in fantastic condition, the classic combination paintwork of Carmen Red, paired with like-new exterior brightwork, makes this Series 2 Coupe stand out from the crowd. Sitting on 15” chrome triple lace wire wheels with a fresh set of tyres all around, this British classic pairs heritage colours with a desirable and eye-catching road stance. With its reupholstered Black interior found in great condition, displaying minimal signs of use or stress, you’ll be sat behind a sporty 14” wooden steering wheel offering a classic yet sports driving position in an exceptionally clean and fresh cabin.

While not recorded, the past restoration work has stood the test of time, due to careful ownership the E-type is found today to be mechanically sound. Starting on the key and pulling smoothly through the 4-speed synchro recommissioned gearbox. With the standard Series 2 Zenith Strombergs removed and replaced with the more desirable triple SU carburettor set-up, the E-type has been finished to a mostly original condition to create an authentic driving experience.
