E-TYPE UK's "Lost in Gloucestershire"

The appeal of the early 4.2 E-Type is well understood.

It delivers the usability improvements over the 3.8 — more torque, improved drivability — while retaining the purity of the Series 1 design. But as with all E-Types, how the car has been restored and prepared ultimately defines how it feels to own.

This example was approached differently.

Discovered after decades hidden in Gloucestershire and subsequently restored with a clear objective — to retain originality where it matters, while addressing the inherent limitations that affect real-world usability — it represents a more considered way of owning an E-Type today.

Prepared by E-Type UK, the focus was not on over-restoration, but on engineering resolution.

OUR VIEW

There are two types of restored E-Type.

Those that prioritise originality above all else — and those that are engineered to be used.

The best examples sit somewhere in between.

What stood out with this car was the clarity of approach. The restoration wasn’t driven by appearance alone, nor by unnecessary modification. Instead, it focused on resolving the known weaknesses of the E-Type platform — cooling, braking, drivability — while preserving the core character that makes the car what it is.

That balance is difficult to achieve properly.

Too little intervention, and the car feels compromised in modern use. Too much, and it loses its identity entirely.

This car avoided both.

At E-Type UK and DM Historics, that philosophy underpins everything we do — creating E-Types that can be driven and enjoyed as intended, without asking the owner to accept the limitations that were present in period.

This was a clear example of that approach.
